‘Trusting in the ordinary’

We delight in how the most commonplace objects can contain startling and remarkable beauty.

For us, Geoff Thompson’s stunning image of the Tachinid Fly combines a quintessentially Australian theme (the ubiquitous fly) with our desire to celebrate the commonplace.

At the scale of the exhibition hall, our proposal is intended to convey the figurative beauty of the insect. However, like the specimen under the microscope, we want to invite inspection of the tapestry’s construction at an intimate scale, to reveal how the warp and weft of the fibres might render a hyper-real graphic quality. We want to showcase the skill of the artisan.

Our tapestry offering is an affirmation of ordinary things and a reminder that doing simple, honest work can lead to remarkable outcomes.
