‘Sea-M’
My concept has developed from an exploration of the rhythmical and hypnotic properties of thread. The weave on a length of thread breathes in and out, up and around. Each strand keeps a constant beat, intertwined with countless others doing just the same, like the ceaseless surge of ocean waves as they inevitably peak, crash and evanesce, only to rhythmically reform once more.
In my installation this motif is realised using clear runners holding up a swell of indigo-dyed rope, knotted at different points along its length and flowing over and onto the floor. This recalls the muted aesthetic of a rolling winter’s ocean, involving viewers in its fluid form and freedom. By creating a visual tapestry of movement, shape and depth, this installation reminds us that even the smallest threads can together create an emergent, unstoppable energy.
